About Scot

Scot the Adventurer!

Scot's passion is nature photography. Scot has endured; sun, rain, wind, snow, sub zero temperatures, long hikes with a heavy load of camera equipment, lack of sleep, airport terminals, flat tires, swarms of human flesh eating insects, cactus thorns, injuries that left him limping, etc, etc, etc... All to capture one decent image.

Scot received his first camera as a gift when he was in grade school, a point and shoot Wards 44 insta-pack; fixed focus, no aperture settings, real basic. He still has that camera after all these years. Scot became stricken with photography disease in the spring of 2000 after purchasing a Kodak digital camera and taking it on vacation to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Photography disease is not fatal, but it is expensive, and there is no known cure. In 2006 Scot became further afflicted with a Pentax digital SLR.

Scot is an east central Iowa based photographer. Living there allows him access to undisturbed and restored plots of tallgrass prairie throughout that portion of the state.

Scot the Adventurer! - On the Prairie

Scot's on going project is the tallgrass prairie. The prairie once covered 400,000 square miles of the plains states. Now very little remains, less than one tenth of one percent. Scot is trying to capture and share the beauty that he has found on the prairie. Perhaps his images will help promote further restoration and preservation of what so little remains.

Photography is a skill Scot is still learning. If he does create art with his photography, you, his viewer will have to be the judge of that. Good photography, to Scot at least, is finding a potential image and shooting it in good light.
